For IOM, reintegration support is an essential part of AVRR assistance as it helps migrants in starting a new life after their return to their home communities. IOM reintegration activities focus on addressing the needs of returnees as well as of their home communities.

In Denmark, reintegration assistance has at various intervals been offered particularly to asylum seekers returning voluntarily to specific countries such as Iraq and Afghanistan. The so-called support programmes ("støtteordninger") from 2012 onwards offered cash reintegration assistance to a broader group of persons although some categories and nationalities were excluded. It is no longer possible to apply for reintegration assistance under the support programme ("støtteordningen").

IOM offices in countries of origin may also have local reintegration programmes that can be accessed by voluntary returnees from as for example EU member states. It should however be noted that such local reintegration programmes are relatively rare and that the conditions of the support might even exclude returnees from Denmark.

As of March 2017, IOM offers reintegration support in Afghanistan to rejected asylum seekers who return voluntarily from Denmark to Afghanistan. You can find information on the support on the materials page.
