As a global organization, IOM has an unprecedented experience on providing direct assistance to Victims of Trafficking around the world. IOM has been working to counter the trafficking in persons since 1994.
From 2008 to 2020, IOM Copenhagen worked with Danish partners to provide identified Victims of Trafficking in Denmark with an offer of Assisted Voluntary Return and Reintegration to their home country or country of residence. In this period, IOM assisted 188 persons identified as victims of trafficking in Denmark with return and reintegration. Almost 100 children in countries of origin also received assistance from IOM and its partners.
The assistance package to Victims of Trafficking returning voluntarly from Denmark included, inter alia:
- Reintegration counselling
- Assistance with travel document acquisition and travel arrangements
- Departure, transit and arrival assistance
- Monthly subsistence allowance, housing assistance and medical assistance
- In-kind reintegration package to be used for starting a small business, training or education
- Extra support to caretakers and their children in the country of return
