IOM at the UN City Copenhagen Human Rights Fair
On 16 August 2021, IOM together with other UN agencies in Denmark participated in the Human Rights Fair hosted by the UN City in Copenhagen as part of the larger Copenhagen Pride Human Rights Conference.
In the fair, IOM engaged in an open dialogue with a broader audience on how IOM works to support a world where everyone is equal and free regardless of sexual orientation or gender identity.
IOM amongst others presented materials and achievements of the regional project Equalcity and in particular the LGBTIQ+ toolbox that supports the creation of inclusive spaces for LGBTIQ+ and SOGIESC people with a migrant background.
Equalcity is funded by the European Union’s Rights, Equality and Citizenship Programme (2014 – 2020) and supports local authorities in fostering inclusion and protection of migrants who are at risk, or who survived sexual and gender-based violence (SGBV). The objective of the project is to build capacity of local frontline services through the development of practical training.
While Equalcity has four major partner cities - Brussels, Luxembourg, Rome and Gothenburg – that each participate in the development of a specific toolbox, it also includes as for example Copenhagen and Elsinore as Danish trainee cities.
The LGBTQI+ toolbox is being developed in partnership with RainbowHouse in Brussels, Belgium.
All toolboxes will be available in January 2022.
